One of the great joys of the collector car hobby is the opportunity to drive in historic and prestigious events around the world. These driving events often re-create famous races or rallies that still push the bond between man and machine, but are nowadays paired with elegant accommodations, dining and camaraderie.

The granddaddy of them all is the Mille Miglia Storica, a recreation of the famous endurance race that began in Italy in 1927. Racing top-speed on public roads through picturesque mountain villages on a loop between Brescia and Rome, the event attracted millions of spectators who came to watch carmakers like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, BMW and Mercedes-Benz duel at the hand of the world’s top drivers.

The original Mille Miglia (Italian for Thousand Mile) ran 24 times before ending in 1957. Now one of the world’s most exclusive driving events, the Mille Miglia Storica is generally limited to makes and models that participated during its historic era, making for a field of the world’s most prestigious cars.

The organizers strive to include not only unusual and interesting qualified entries each year, but top-notch examples that are both beautiful and robust enough to tackle the challenging 1,000-mile course. To that end, Throttlestop is thrilled that one of our favorite recent sales is headed to the event at the hands of a young, enthusiastic new owner.

The 1953 Nash-Healey LeMans roadster was arguably America’s first true sportscar, named to honor the car’s victories at the legendary French endurance race in 1951 and 1952. Cloaked in stylish Italian coachwork by Pininfarina, and powered by a dual-carbureted straight-six engine hooked to a three-speed manual transmission and torque-tube driven 4.10 rear differential, the Nash-Healey combined performance with panache.

One of only 106 roadsters believed left in existence, this fully-restored example is a perfect choice for an event car. Similar in specification to Maseratis of that era, but at a fraction of the cost, this rugged Nash-in-designer-clothes should handle the slopes of the Apennines with aplomb, and we can’t wait to see photos from the adventure! If we can help you find and prepare the event car for your next adventure, please contact us. If we don’t have it in stock, we know where to find it. Nothing makes us happier than pairing the right car with the right owner to create lasting memories from driving experiences!
